Turning up the volume .....

The Australian stock market had record trading volumes in 2006. There were over 38.2 million equities and warrants trades, a rise of 48 per cent.

The cash market value of trades was $A1.1 trillion, an increase of 29 per cent. However, only 22.3 million options contracts were bought and sold, a fall of four per cent.

ASX Limited (ASX:ASX) returned 24.2 per cent over the year, the third year in a row with returns over 20 per cent.

Its good to see that there is some volume growing in the Austrlaian Stockmarket. I feel these figures might suggest that their was a lot more trading than "investing". It could also be due to the large cashflow superfunds have at the moment. I expect it will continue to rise indefinately.
Good Luck Investing.
